Ikast-Brande Municipality’s technical and environmental committee has given a go-ahead to international fashion company Bestseller’s sky-high building plans. The Danish fashion clothing company is planning to build new headquarters at the central Jutland town.
The company’s next step will be to get an approval from finance committee of the town on March 5 and later from the municipality on March 11. The people familiar with the process say that these approvals are only normal and a significant hurdle has already been surpassed with the environmental committee’s approval.
Bestseller is planning a 320 meter skyscraper with 60,000 sqm area. The structure will stand as one of the tallest buildings in Europe after construction.
The company places a historical and sentimental value to the Brande town project as the company was founded in the town in 1975 which has now become a global brand employing 15,000 people worldwide. In spite of the global success of the company, Bestseller still remains a family business with strong sentimental connection to Jutland home. The current CEO of the company, Anders Holch Povlsen succeeded his father, the company’s founder.
The project has hired two Danish architectural firms for the construction and design of the Bestseller village and tower, namely Ramboll engineers and Dorte Mandrup architects. The headquarter project is being conceived more as a small city-village than as office complex. The plan includes restaurants, hotels, offices, retail stores and residences. The company’s billionaire CEO will be the sole funding source of the project.
The project manager of Bestseller village, Anders Krogh Vogdrup that the project has been designed in a way to feel like natural part of the Jutland local community. He added that the construction of the Bestseller village will create value for the people in Brande and their colleagues. Danes are not particularly fond of tall towers in their cities; however, the Bestseller skyscraper ambition may open doors for huge commercial and social investment in the town of Brande.
